Being relatively new to the world of calligraphy, I feel like I’m just beginning to find my way in it. Exploring and copying the styles and techniques of historical examples (e.g. medieval illuminated manuscripts) is one of the time-honored means of learning this craft. Working with texts that are especially meaningful to the calligrapher is another. My attraction to Joyce Mansour’s poetry, and my curiosity about potential relationships between text and image are two of the primary forces at play in this piece.
