Waltzing the ritual by Paul Johnson
Open the door on the book’s cover and see yourself silhouetted against a window as you prepare to begin the day. There then follows eight visual and poetic reflections on the daily ritual of life. Hidden in the artwork of each picture is an aspect of that ritual – enacting the day’s meaning, giving it shape and substance, the invisibility and mystery of the daily routine, and, to finish with, the playfulness of waltzing with your ritual. The pictures are circular - symbolic of unity, wholeness and the cyclic nature of life. Our daily rituals are, too, cyclical, one following on the other until sleep - perhaps the most secret ritual of all - takes us into another realm of being ourselves, until on reawakening we enter the rituals of the next, new day.
