Th Playbook is a result of my interest in the history of the alphabet, a childhood experience with Greek, and my visits to The Whittington Press, whose vast collection of Monotype matrices extends to eths and thorns. Setting type is the most appealing part of the letterpress process for me, and invites the kind of reverie that causes me to wonder: how would a theta fit into English composition?
Artist Bio
Barbara Henry is an artist, printer, and poet publishing under the imprint Harsimus Press. She is Master Printer at The Center for Book Arts in New York City and was for many years Curator at Bowne & Co., Stationers at the South Street Seaport Museum in New York.
