This piece is a spirited reflection on Portland’s vibrant subculture of individuality and eccentricity. Portland is a city of local flair, community activities, and iconic people, places, and things. It is what draws people to the city, and begs some of them, like me, to stay.
I especially like this piece because it contains some of my favorite things about Portland: the Unipiper, the naked bike ride, Portlandia, Paul Bunyan, Voodoo Doughnuts, various sculptures around town, and hipsters high and low. And don’t forget the restaurants, beer and ice cream. The abundance of birds represents the playfulness of the piece and the free spirit of the city.
