The pages for this book emerged as a way for me to process the emotions I experienced viewing repeated images of the destruction of Aleppo. There is, of course, the sheer magnitude of the physical destruction, but along side are all the lives torn apart, physically and spiritually. Families divided, lost and shattered. Many stories told while others go unspoken. Individual careers upended. Libraries, shops, gardens, and parks decimated. This story does not stop with Aleppo, but carries through to all people forced to leave their former lives, to forge out a new beginning in strange lands; living in one world, belonging to another in spirit.
