Macleaya Cordata by Rebecca Wild

This piece is a collaborative project between print maker Michael Kelley and Rebecca Wild. We began by choosing an object from nature that excited us visually. We both grow Plume Poppy, aka Macleaya cordata, in our gardens and are drawn to the graphic elements of this unique plant. Michael first produced the lino cut of the leaf and stem. My job was to respond to his image with my calligraphy and art thus fusing our styles into a cohesive whole. The poetry is taken from botanical text and meshed with the words of Luther Burbank, "a flower is an educated weed."
