I conceived of this book as part of my “science for dummies” series. I love science and make these books as a way to explore the amazing discoveries revealed by the Hubble telescope and the CERN particle accelerator, and thus to express my sense of wonder in book form.

Artist Bio

Sibyl Rubottom was born a few blocks from the Hudson River in Manhattan and raised next to Otter Creek, an estuary of Long Island Sound in Mamaroneck, New York.  She journeyed north to Narragansett Bay for her B.A. from the Rhode Island School of Design in Providence, Rhode Island. She spent a year next to the Tiber River in Rome in the R.I.S.D. European Honors Program. She returned to the edge of Long Island Sound in New Haven for her M.F.A. at Yale. She was married on a silver barge on a pond in Newtown, Connecticut, and then spent four months on the banks of the Ganges in Rishikesh, India, studying with Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. The Pacific Ocean then became Sibyl’s new shore and the constant presence in her life as she raised a family in San Diego, nurtured a custom fabric design business, ventured into artist’s books, and co-founded Bay Park Press. The Athenaeum Music & Arts Library is her littoral home above La Jolla Cove where she works as Artist-in-Residence and teaches at the Athenaeum’s School of the Arts.
