I built this form as an exercise in mapping the interior of a honey bee hive using color and pattern, representing the honey flow that brings with it glorious scents and flavors, as well as valuable sustenance. This print is one of three in a series I have been calling Bee Capitalism, exploring the possible parallels between bee colonies and human economic constructs.
Artist Bio
Rebecca Gilbert is a co-owner, operator, and letterpress printer at Stumptown Printers. She is also a co-founder of two Portland-based arts non-profits, the Independent Publishing Resource Center (iprc.org) and the C.C. Stern Type Foundry (ccsterntype.org). Rebecca holds a BFA in Graphic Design from Pacific Northwest College of Art and a certificate of achievement from Monotype University.
