This book is a small, one-of-a-kind folded book with watercolored, cut, interlocking layers. Industrial fabric dyes on mould-made watercolor paper with collage elements on front and back paste downs, colorful strings and tassels and spine decorations. Handwritten title in gold ink on inside front cover. This unique pop-up has no folds. All the sections are joined with dovetail hinges. This enables the pop-up to open and close with ease (no spring action), and there is no paper fatigue. Medieval illuminated manuscripts and the art of South East Asia inspire me. The piece tells a story, but the viewer decides what it is. The brief reflective narrative combines with the artwork rather like an illustration in a book, except that the pop-up is complete in itself, not an episode.
