Water and boats are recurring images in my work. This book is based on my dream at the water’s edge. The dream’s message is about letting go of control, fears, and uncertainties. Remaining calm, resilient, and patient are lessons we must learn in an ever-changing world.
Artist Bio
Luz Marina Ruiz is best known for her ability to transform 2D prints into sculptural artists’ books and installations with themes relating to water/boats. Her works are visual journeys not literal representations of water. Instead, they remind us of the fragility of our planet and our essential connection and dependence on water for survival. Although she works with challenging themes, the work focuses on the beauty, mystery, whimsy, and power that water holds. It’s a way to hang on to and honor what is at stake. She exhibits nationally and internationally. Private, corporate, and library collections house her work nationwide: Cynthia Sears Artist's Book Collection, Bainbridge Art Museum, Bainbridge Island, WA. Environmental Design Library–Rare Books Collection, UC Berkeley. Mills College Special Collection Library, USC Special Collection Library, Hewlett-Packard, Kaiser Hospital, Hughes Aircraft, American Express.
