Cloudberries and Other Fruits was inspired by a vintage encyclopedia of fruits and berries and an estate sale castoff of yellowed index cards. This collection of hand-painted cards tucked in to a clamshell box is reminiscent of grandmother’s recipe box. However, the typewritten text on the back of each colorful painting of berries and exotic fruits doesn’t list measurements and ingredients. Instead, found text evokes the poetry of longing and the desire to smell, touch, and taste.
Artist Bio
Lisa Onstad received a BA in Fine Art from Lewis and Clark College in Portland, Oregon in 1986, and a certificate in Book Arts from the College of Art and Craft in Portland, Oregon in 2001. Lisa has shown her work nationally, and her paintings and artist's books can be found in private and public collections in the U.S. and abroad, including the Yale University Special Collections, University of Washington, Seattle and the Atelier Vis-Ã -Vis, Marseille, France. Her artist's book, Aggregate Memory, a collaboration with Macy Chadwick, was included in 500 Handmade Books, Lark Press, 2008 and Book, Art Object, Oak Knoll Press, 2008.
