I built this form as an exercise in mapping the interior of a honey bee hive using color and pattern, based on observations of my backyard colonies. This print is one of three in a series I have been calling Bee Capitalism, exploring the possible parallels between bee colonies and human economic constructs.
Artist Bio
Rebecca Gilbert is a co-owner, operator, and letterpress printer at Stumptown Printers. She is also a co-founder of two Portland-based arts non-profits, the Independent Publishing Resource Center (iprc.org) and the C.C. Stern Type Foundry (ccsterntype.org). Rebecca holds a BFA in Graphic Design from Pacific Northwest College of Art and a certificate of achievement from Monotype University.
