Paper Round-Up for Write Around Portland
We need paper--lots of it!
We will be hosting a bookbinding benefit for Write Around Portland in July. Local bookbinders will be coming together for a day to bind 100 journals for this great organization. If you have a few extra sheets of decorative paper lying around the studio (patterned, solid color, or whatever you’ve got) for covers and endsheets, we would love and appreciate your donation.

23 Sandy Gallery is teaming up with one of our favorite gallery artists, Alex Appella, and her mother Judith Havas, to raise funds to donate a copy of their powerful family history, The János Book, to the permanent collection at The Oregon Jewish Museum. When an old childhood photo of Alex Appella’s great uncle and his siblings turned up she was shocked to see the presence of an unknown child, a third brother, someone completely unknown and unfamiliar to the family. Seeking answers to the question of who this young man was, Alex sought out the only remaining family member who would know, János, the youngest of the four siblings born to her great grandparents.

Mary V. Marsh
A native of Beaverton, now residing in San Francisco, Mary Marsh brings new life to old books by using library discards to create her unique artist books. In this collection, Marsh makes new covers from old and converts checkout cards (remember those?) to pages, embellishing them with illustrations to further develop her expressions.
