Uncommon Threads: New Works by Mar Goman
A recently arrived batch of new books from the ever-awesome Mar Goman has me all jazzed up. Many of you will remember Mar from her two solo shows at 23 Sandy Gallery. Artist books are just a small segment of her prolific artistic output. Each batch of books that comes my way find homes very quickly. Mar's work is always lush with fabric, sewing, embroidery, buttons, found rusty bits and almost always include her own self-portrait.
New work from Mar got me thinking about the upcoming call for entries for All Stitched Up, a juried exhibition at University of Puget Sound "asking for submissions of artists’ books from around the globe where stitching is a featured element."
That got me thinking about Uncommon Threads, one of my very favorite exhibitions in the gallery way back in 2011. Sadly, the online exhibition catalog is no more for that show, but I do have several related books currently in inventory.
Enjoy,
Laura
