Two New Shows Opening Friday

Photo+Book is a juried exhibition of self-published, on-demand photography books. This show celebrates a new digital innovation in the world or photography. Online services such as Blurb, Lulu and others allow photographers (or anyone else who wants to publish a book!) the ability to produce a book store-quality book with the click of a mouse.

Also showing this month: Lady Vengeance. British artist Sarah Bodman’s artist books are inspired by the darker side of nature, human nature and history.

Bodman’s inspiration is the darker side of nature, human nature and history. Like a beautiful poisonous flower, her limited edition, handmade books open with images that lure the viewer in by making the subject look attractive. But, what lies beneath must be, of course, very sinister. Bodman is Research Fellow at the Centre for Fine Print Research at the University of West England in Bristol where she runs projects investigating and promoting contemporary book arts.
