Trade Book News: 20th Anniversary Edition of Cover to Cover by Shereen LaPlantz

You've probably heard me say this before, but Shereen LaPlantz is the reason I am here today. In April of 1997 I attended a lecture at Two Hands Paperie in Denver that featured a slide show of handmade books from the original edition of her book Cover to Cover. I was immediately hooked and since then book arts have been my passion, obsession and even my livelihood. Many consider Cover to Cover a pioneering book responsible for our modern day explosion of interest in the book arts. Shereen's books made making books accessible, inspiring and sold out over and over again. Nearly every book artist, teacher and collector I know has a copy of Cover to Cover and uses it regularly.

Lark Books has just published publishing the 20th Anniversary Edition of Cover to Cover and David LaPlantz, Shereen's husband, tells me that "Lark has done a great job of updating and editing the original composition" and that "Shereen would be pleased."

Click here to read my blog post about Shereen and her book. 23 Sandy carries three of Shereen's handmade artist books in the gallery and they are collected widely as a way to remember Shereen and the impact she had on our field. Plus, we helped re-publish another of her many how-to books, Innovative Bookbinding: Secret Compartments and Hidden Messages.
