The library has a beautiful and easily accessible exhibition space and I am very proud of our first traveling exhibition.

It's hard to believe how time flies! You only have one more weekend in the gallery to catch Book Power Redux. This phenomenal international juried exhibition of book art addressing social and political issues can take a while to explore, so plan to spend some at least a couple of hours here before it closes Saturday, July 26th. Book Power Redux will then travel to Collins Memorial Library at the University of Puget Sound and be on ehxibit August 5 through October 15, 2014.

23 Sandy Introduces Al Mutanabbi Curated Collection

23Sandy Gallery is proud to present a new Curated Collection of artist books made for the Al-Mutanabbi Street Starts Here Project. The Al-Mutanabbi Street Starts Here Project began in 2007 when San Francisco poet and bookseller Beau Beausoleil read about a bombing on al-Mutanabbi Street in Baghdad. Al-Mutanabbi Street was the heart of Iraq’s literary community, a street lined with bookstores and cafés where writers and intellectuals gathered.

Congratulations Book Power Redux Award Winners!

It is a great pleasure to announce our award winners for Book Power Redux. Jane Carlin, library director at University of Puget Sound Collins Library and MalPina Chan, an independent curator based in Olympia spent hours agonizing over how to select just four of the 61 books in this "powerful" exhibition to be singled out for awards. Let me tell you--this was a very tough job! Winning a Best of Show Award is Susan Collard, for her heartbreaking book, My Little Book of Suicides.

Thank you to each and every artist who submitted work to Book Power Redux, our next upcoming juried exhibition May 30 - July 26, 2014. The gallery's very first traveling exhibition, Book Power Redux will move the the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma Washington in mid-August. Jane Carlin, the library director at UPS and Olympia-based artist and curator MalPina Chan and I had the duties of scoring each of the 201 books that were submitted to the show.
