23 Sandy Gallery is pleased to announce the award winners for our current exhibition titled BLOOD QUANTUM. This thoughtful and moving show features 48 books by 47 artists from across the United States and as far away as Argentina, Germany and Montreal. Blood Quantum is a concept that refers to the degree of ancestry for an individual of a specific racial or ethnic group such as Native Americans which brought us submissions focusing on ancestry, identity, heritage, family history and personal cultural narrative.

A force in our field, Hedi has invented many popular structures including the flag book, blizzard book, fishbone fold, Wunderkabinets, pivoting panel book and many others.

Jane Carlin, library director at University of Puget Sound Collins Library and MalPina Chan, an independent curator based in Olympia spent hours agonizing over how to select just four of the 61 books in this "powerful" exhibition to be singled out for awards. Let me tell you--this was a very tough job!
