Photolucida is a Portland based non-profit organization that promotes the careers of emerging photographers. You may have heard of this terrific group as it presents an eponymous biennial photography review festival in Portland as well as the very popular annual Critical Mass.

Each year Photolucida publishes monographs of the top two or three winners of the Critical Mass competition. The winners are chosen from over 600 submissions by a group of very distinguished curators, gallerists and photography thinkers from around the world. These books are a great view on what’s hot in the world of photography today.

Stop by the gallery and check out the current six Critical Mass titles. The six books published to date are by Hiroshi Watanabe, Louis Palu, Sage Sohier, Camille Seaman, Amy Stein and Donald Weber. More gorgeous titles are in progress as we speak. Preview all six titles here.

But, hurry! Some of these titles are selling out very quick. Amy Stein’s book, Domesticated, won a book of the year award and is selling fast. Stop by the gallery to start your Photolucida collection.

Also, stay tuned. Date and location are still being finalized. This year’s review festival takes place in April. One event not to be missed is the Portfolio Walk. It is the only event open to the public during the reviews. All of the participating photographers display their portfolios in a great opportunity to see a ton of inspiring work and get a chance to meet the photographers. I’ll post more info as we get closer to the event.
