Introducing Back Matter
23Sandy Gallery is thrilled to announce that my long-time, deeply-appreciated assistant, Erin Mickelson, is taking over the back room at 23 Sandy Gallery. She will be curating shows in her "gallery within a gallery" that she is calling Back Matter. I first met Erin after a lecture at Oregon College of Art and Craft way back in 2011 and have been thankful to have her cheerful presence here in the gallery every single Saturday since. She is a practicing book artist, letterpress printer and printmaker with a great eye for design and an interest in smart, meaningful work. I can't wait to see what she comes up with for her very own little gallery space.
Erin's very first show features Michelle Iris Latham (shown here), who explores the tensions between humankind and nature through lithographs and etchings. Her work subtly challenges the often-perceived dichotomy between civilization and the natural world. Michelle's techniques include lithography, acrylic drypoint, copper plate photogravure, and mixed media. Stop by to see this new work in person soon.
Congratulations Erin and Michelle!
