Heading north next week. Come say hello in Seattle or Tacoma!

Very excited to hit the road next week to play with the exceptional book arts communities in Seattle and Tacoma. You are invited to two special events:

Pricing Strategies for Book Artists Lecture Sponsored by Puget Sounds Book Artists Monday, November 30, 4:00-5:00 p.m. Room 020, Collins Library University of Puget Sound, Tacoma

Pricing a work of art is never easy. Pricing a book as a work of art is even more formidable. Variations in materials, structure and production methods make determining fair prices for artist books very difficult. Pricing can be a very scary prospect when creating any new project. How can a book artist be compensated for the untold hundreds of hours that go into the research, design, printing, binding and other countless processes involved in crafting a unique bookwork or editioned masterpiece?

Based on my many years of experience selling artist books both as artist and dealer plus a previous career as a professional in the field of marketing, publishing and advertising, this lecture covers such topics as pricing strategies, research, the market values of artist books, pricing pitfalls, various pricing formulas, how to raise prices, ethics and offering discounts.

Plus, you'll get a sneak peek at some of the works currently on display in the Blood Quantum exhibition.

Blood Quantum Trunk Show Sponsored by the Book Arts Guild Wednesday, December 2, 7:00-9:00 p.m. Maps/Special Collections Classroom B69 Suzzallo Library University of Washington, Seattle

A special hands-on “trunk show” of Blood Quantum, our current international exhibition featuring 48 books by 47 artists exploring topics ancestry, identity, heritage, family history and personal cultural narrative. The books in the show are all deeply felt, thoughtful works of celebration, remembrance and reflection. Join us for a chance to see a selection of books from the show plus other inspiring marvels from 23 Sandy’s regular inventory of artist books. For this event I'll talk about the process of curating the exhibition and the stories behind some of the works before opening the evening up to a hands-on viewing of books.

See you soon!
