Gifty Picks - Day 3 - Inflammatory Banned Books by Jessica Spring

Today's holiday Gifty Pick is by Tacoma, Washington-based letterpress printer and book artist Jessica Spring. The full title of this terrific little tome is An Inflammatory Guide to Banned and Challenged Books You Should Read. It's neon orange cover and ink in a matchbook style will really make you think about what's happening even in censorship today—consider The Hunger Games, for example, a current hit book and movie that has been challenged many time across the country.

Jessica tells us, "Published for Banned Books Week 2012, this letterpress-printed accordion is bound in a fluorescent matchbook cover foil-stamped “Open Mind Before Striking.” It features modern books banned and challenged under categories like racism, nudity, or homosexual content with quotes about censorship and intellectual freedom. This books was a collaboration with Sweet Pea Flaherty of King’s Bookstore, a portion of proceeds benefit Freedom to Read Foundation."

You can purchase this book here with free first class mail shipping if ordered on our web site before noon tomorrow.

Enjoy!
