First Friday Rolls Around Again!

First Friday Rolls Around Again!

Join us Friday, February 6, 2009, 6:00 p.m to 9:00 p.m.
for a First Friday Artists Reception for Mark L. Tompkins and Virginia Flynn.

This month we are pleased to welcome two artists who are exploring the combination of text and image. Seattle photographer and writer Mark L. Tompkins brings us visual conversations that address the mystery and irony of the strong story lines that scribe through our lives. Tompkins’ images are dreamy black and white photographs paired with hand-written text. Depaak Chopra says of Mark’s work, “Mark Tompkins expresses the longings of the human spirit in images and words that stir the soul. You will find yourself in them.”

Also, fresh off her terrifically inspiring profile on Oregon Arts Beat, we are pleased to present Tender is the Knife, new paper cuts by Virginia Flynn. These delightful visual stories illustrate characters that come alive and dance across her crisp black paper. Characters based on poetry and verse by authors such as: William Stafford (at left), William Butler Yeats, Dorothy Parker and F. Scott Fitzgerald.
