Cathy DeForest's Vision Quilt Project Aims to Prevent Gun Violence
Cathy DeForest, a book artist many 23 Sandy fans have known and admired for years, has started a new project called Vision Quilt, which is working to prevent gun violence. According to the web site, "The Vision Quilt will create a national network of supporters cultivating compassionate, nonviolent change through the making and exhibiting of quilt panels created by thousands of people across the country."
The project has a call for participants to create panels of fabric or canvas on the them of "It is possible...." These quilt panels will be used in community events, marches, parades locally and nationally.
As we all work through the horrific events in Orlando, it helps to hope and pray that important projects like this can have an impact. Cathy is a star in the book arts world, a passionate poet, and thoughtful community organizer. She was the west coast coordinator for the Al Mutannabi Street Starts Here project, which continues to have influence around the world. We are sure her new Vision Quilt project will bring great results. Thank you, Cathy, for all you do!
