Linda Welch • Showing in the Gallery Through April 25

Linda Welch has found her way to Portland (by way of California) and now to 23 Sandy Gallery! Her art encompasses a broad range of techniques utilizing paper, textiles, paint, and even concrete. Common to the use of these mediums are her many sources of inspiration—“history, rituals, words, beauty, imperfections, and the nuances of nature.” According to Linda, the process of “gathering raw material is as significant as the manipulation in determining a final composition.” Linda’s work often employs the use of collage. Some of her pieces reflect collaboration with French artist Robert Jean Ray.

Linda’s exhibit of handmade books, paintings, and sculpture is not to be missed. You will find her unique books full of surprises—some visible and others hidden—and a few encapsulated between pages that are stitched and wrapped together. No less amazing are Linda’s sculptural pieces. Her techniques are as fascinating as the finished work. Linda is also showing several paintings. Her use of collage, line, and color create movement that is sometimes calm and other times frenzied. Linda’s work is dimensional, tactile, intriguing, and enticing - and like all good art - will make you curious about her journey to the final statement.
