Artist Spotlight
Linda Womack
We’ve been a big fan of Linda Womack’s encaustic paintings for ages! Every year she is one of our must-see stops on the Portland Open Studios* tour and it’s been very gratifying to watch her grow into a full-time artist, educator and published author.
Linda uses encaustic medium to create lively and lovely paintings that seem to glow with their multiple luminous layers. She often incorporates photographs embedded deep in the layers of paint and wax. One piece that stood out during a recent studio visit used an old piece of lace as a stencil for the hot white wax, which gave the work a whole new dimension.
We have just added Linda’s to our roster of artists. Stop by the gallery and take a look at her gorgeous work. We currently have four pieces on hand, with more to surely come in the future (as soon as we build that storage we’ve been planning!).
Did we mention that Linda teaches encaustic painting as well? She travels frequently to teach the techniques presented in her book, Embracing Encaustic, which we just happen to sell in the gallery. She also teaches a regular line-up of inspiring workshops at her sweet studio called “The Hive” in southeast Portland. Check out her current class line-up here. One of these days we want to talk her into teaching an encaustics for book artists workshop. Stay tuned!
*Word has it that the Portland Open Studios catalogs will be out any day now. We'll carry them in the gallery. Stop by and pick yours up soon.
