Artist Lecture: Mark Tompkins on Mixing Media
Mixing Media: Pitfalls and Rewards from Doing the Unexpected
Saturday, February 21, 2009, 5:00 p.m.
Free and open to the public
Mark Tompkins, our featured artist in the gallery in February is both an accomplished writer and photographer. In creating art, when you begin mixing media, you begin challenging the visual references of your viewer. Not only does each component need to work, they need to work together – a romance, of sorts. Just as strongly it challenges the character of the artist, particularly their ability to trust. As an artist that mixes original photographic images with dedicated text (varying in length from one line to full poems), Mark will discuss the creative processes and challenges of mixing media as illustrated with these elements. Joins us for a fun, inspiring lecture.
