WHY GLOBES?
They used to be “standard” equipment in grade schools, libraries and a necessary “prop” for a gentlemen’s study…
Because it’s in peril…
Because you can hold it in your hands…
Because everybody sees it differently…
Because you can see it even when it’s not there…
Because it belongs to everybody…
Because we all inhabit it…
Because it’s half full of light, half covered in darkness…
I wanted to create a visual statement that would reveal how fears build upon themselves and can take over or dominate one’s entire perception of reality (the world)… so, I listed everything that I could think of that I was afraid of…

Artist Biography
Robert Tomlinson is a Portland-based visual artist who works in many mediums, including photo-based collages and mixed media drawings on paper. He is humbled by a good poem, thrilled by the changing leaves of autumn and values collaborations, as is illustrated by helping to organize this show as well as his traveling exhibition Original Weather which features 18 of his drawings accompanied by poems by nine Oregon poets, written in response to the work. Robert is also a founding member of 13 HATS—a local group of artists and writers who work together.
