WANDERLUST AWARD WINNERS!
23 Sandy Gallery congratulates our WANDERLUST award winners.
Fantastic work, everyone!
23 Sandy Gallery is pleased to present WANDERLUST, an international juried exhibition of book art exploring the desire to travel, and the drive to discover and document place.
Wanderlust is a word that can mean many things, but first and foremost it conjures travel, exploration and place. Wanderlust, a German word, made from “wandern,” which means walking, as in to take a walk, and “lust,” desire. It can also mean a strong desire to travel or discover new places. For this exhibition we sought book art that explores the definition of Wanderlust—to explore, travel, inhabit—even if only between the pages.
This exhibition features 56 books by 54 artists including artists from as far away as Mexico, Spain, Norway, Germany, Canada and the UK—all telling stories of near and far. Most of the selected works revolve around a strong sense of place. More than just travelogues we found deep explorations and personal transformations across destinations.
WANDERLUST features the following artists: Carol Barton, Tony Bellaver, Sarah Bodman, Patty Bruce, R D Burton, Peter Bushell, Sue Clancy, Anne Covell, Jenny Craig, Isabel Duffy, Mari Eckstein Gower, Nisha Ferguson, Colin Frazer, Emily García, Casey Gardner, Tatiana Ginsberg, Christiane Grauert, Emilie Haaf, Kathy T. Hettinga, Robin Hruska, Andrew Huot, Magda Klemp, Bryan Kring, Sammy Lee, Woody Leslie, Louise Levergneux, Adele Little Caemmerer, Celeste Maia, Imi Maufe, Sarah McCoy, Tekla McInerney, Julie McIntyre, Bonnie Meltzer, Erin Mickelson, Tara Murino-Brault, Amandine Nabarra-Piomelli, Pamela Olson, Lisa Onstad, Linda Piacentini-Yaple, Dr. Bob Pliny, Robert Rowe, Elizabeth Sanford, Jaime Lynn Shafer, Stephen Sidelinger, Lynn Skordal, Priscilla Spitler, Marilyn Stablein, Barbara Strigel, Andie Thrams, Sandy Tilcock, Jill Timm, Elsi Vassdal Ellis, Ines von Ketelhodt, Nanette Wylde, and Dorothy A. Yule.
WANDERLUST was juried by the founder of 23 Sandy Gallery, Laura Russell. Each of the 247 works submitted was diligently evaluated and rated for concept, craftsmanship and originality. We are grateful to each and every talented artist who submitted rich and diverse work for this show. We could have created at least four vastly different and powerful shows from the works submitted. Sitting in one place long enough to curate one select, cohesive group of books was enough to make one want to go for a walk. Thank you to all participants.
