This piece was created in the letterpress studio at Wells College in Aurora, NY. The collection at Wells is a treasure trove of 19th and 20th century ornament. The layers of strata were set with either borders or decorative rule, and the imagery are largely zinc and copper cuts. The split-fountain background was printed from wood type streamers. Of note is the use of Egyptian Border from MacKellar, Smiths & Jordan, dating from the 1880s.
