The simplest stitch in the embroidery vocabulary is the running stitch. This is the base of Kantha, a stitching style which historically joins old, repurposed sari fabrics to make quilts. Many of the Kantha cloths tell stories with their composite stitches. I have been using Kantha as a non-adhesive joining stitch for come-and-go bindings. The papers were harvested from a recycle bin at a college, and overprinted with linoleum and lead ornaments.
