This piece is number 22 in the Dead Feminists series, created during the 115th U.S. Men’s Open golf championship, which was held for the first time ever in our hometown of Tacoma, WA. The Chambers Bay golf course is one of the most beautiful and challenging in the world, and the U.S. Open attracts talented athletes and a ton of media attention. It’s unfortunate big sporting events like these are nearly always men’s games-even though women athletes train and compete with equal rigor. So for our newest Dead Feminist broadside, we’ve unleashed the irrepressible showmanship of golfer and all-star athlete Babe Didrikson Zaharias, who was a real contender (regardless of gender).
A portion of the proceeds were donated to the Women’s Sports Foundation to give girls everywhere equal access to sports and athletic training.
