Description

Remnants brings the world of four women naturalists to life and re-frames their stories in a more personal context. The specimens included and documented in the piece open the door into the world these women wandered and wondered in. They offer a tangible and personal connection to the the discoveries and observations these women made. Remnants is a quest to find a new perspective by viewing nature through their lens, and to better understand their world by examining our own.

Rhiannon Alpers is book artist and designer, specializing in the mediums of letterpress printing, bookbinding and papermaking under the imprint of Gazelle & Goat Press. Her sculptural artist books are influenced by the untenanted remnants of plant and animal life. Her commercial and production work has included clients such as Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, Hardly Strictly Bluegrass, the San Francisco Ballet, and the Long Now Foundation. She has taught workshops and college courses at San Francisco Art Institute, University of San Francisco, Academy of Art University, San Francisco Center for the Book, Center for Book and Paper in Chicago, Columbia College Chicago.
