Well, actually, it’s been done for a week now and I must apologize for not keeping you updated as much as I had hoped to. Somehow installation week always takes me by surprise when it ends up being all consuming. Between the last minute installation details, the mad marketing rush and then two nights of artist receptions, you would think that after almost four years, I’d be able to better plan for the madness. But, oh well. We are here, Diane’s show is up and it is remarkable.
Diane’s installation has been surprising for me in one interesting way. As you can see in the photo at right she has covered all of the gallery windows with black paper to help create an environment of shadows and dappled light. This frankly, made me a little bit nervous. Here we are in July, such a lovely month here in Portland, and I can’t see my usually gorgeous view of the trees and street outside. I was worried I’d be sitting here in the dark all day for a whole month. But, much to my surprise, instead I’ve been enjoying the peaceful, meditative, quiet atmosphere that Diane has created and am loving every minute of it. Come, experience it for yourself.
You can see more photos of Diane’s completed installation, titled Bowing to Paradox here on the online catalog for her show.
Also, mark your calendars. Diane will be “on site” sitting the gallery from Noon till 6:00 p.m., July 16 and 30. These two Fridays will be a great time to learn more about story behind the work directly from the artist herself. She will also be giving an artist talk on Saturday, July 24 at 4:00 p.m. Please join us.
P.S. We have air conditioning! So, don’t be afraid of the heat.
