Two Big Honors in One Month
One of the artists featured in our current Down + Out exhibition has recently won two very high honors in the world of photography.
First, and closest to home, Alejandro won one of two Critical Mass book awards from Photolucida. I reviewed Alejandro’s portfolio at last year’s Photolucida portfolio review event and it was one of my very favorite of all the works I saw that weekend.
In addition, he was selected as a finalist from among the nearly 800 applicants to this year’s Aperture Portfolio Prize, an international photography competition run by the Aperture Foundation.
This exciting rising star is also showing right here at 23 Sandy this month. The image above is from his Fragmented Cities series, an exploration of the suburban sprawl of Monterrey, Mexico. Come check it out before his work becomes untouchable!
Down + Out is open for its final three days this weekend. Hours are Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 12-6. And, don’t forget about Crista Dix’s lecture titled, The State of Contemporary Photography Today on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. on February 27.
